• The Delegation of Center of Urban System Engineering Visits the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Australia for Exchanges

  • From October 13 to 14, Zhu Wei, Director of Beijing Research Center of Urban System Engineering, and his delegation went to Vienna, Austria, to visit and exchange views with the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA). They visited Mr. Albert van JAARSVELD, Director and Chief Executive Officer of IIASA, and Ms. Elena ROVENSKAY, Executive Deputy Director and Project Director, to communicate their intention of international cooperation and hold academic exchanges and discussions with relevant departments focusing on urban safety and risk governance. Dr. Liu Mengting and Dr. Shen Chunming of the Center of Urban System Engineering, went together. First of all, Zhu Wei briefed Mr. Albert and Ms. Elena on the basic information of the Beijing Academy of Science and Technology (BJAST), the BJAST Think Tank and the Center Of Urban System Engineering, as well as the purpose of this visit, and exchanged views on issues related to international cooperation in the field of urban safety and risk governance. Mr. Albert welcomed the delegation and hoped that the cooperation and exchanges with Chinese research institutions would be deepened; Ms. Elena had in-depth exchanges and discussions with Zhu Wei and his delegation on the advantages and cooperation intentions of both sides, indicating that the research on urban system has urgent practical significance and broad application prospects, and the research achievements of IIASA in system analysis need to be transformed in the application field of Chinese urban scale, and further cooperation and discussion can be made on the decisions servicing the government.

    Later, the delegation had in-depth academic exchanges with the Risk and Resilience Research Department of IIASA. On the basis of the introduction to the research fields and achievements, the research departments of the two sides discussed the research status, solutions and challenges in the aspects of resilient city construction, safety and security of major events, climate change and natural disaster risks. At the same time, the delegation exchanged views with the project group of IIASA Young Scientists Summer Program on the cooperative training of youth talents.
