• Global Science and Technology Innovation High-Level Think Tank Forum of 2021 ZGC Forum is Successfully Held

  • On 25th of September, The Global Science and Technology Innovation High-Level Think Tank Forum of 2021 ZGC Forum (referred to as "2021 ZGC Think Tank Forum") was held at the conference center of the Exhibition Center of Zhongguancun Exhibition Center. The forum was co-sponsored by the BJAST, Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development, the Institutes of Science and Development of Chinese Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Innovation Strategy of China Association for Science and Technology, and is hosted by the ZGC Global High-level Think Tank Alliance. Bank of Beijing, Training Center for “Belt and Road”, China Internet Information Center, and Qianlong Think Tank provided support.

    With the theme of "The Idea and Practice of Open Science: The Voice of Global High-Level Think Tanks", the forum invited top scientists from 10 countries, representatives of international organizations, entrepreneurs, and more than 110 domestic and international experts, scholars, government officials and media reporters to participate. At the same time, several global sub venues were set up in 7 countries including Canada, and broadcast live worldwide simultaneously.

    Li Ping, the member of the Leading Party Members' Group of Ministry of Science and Technology, the president of Science and Technology Daily, Danae Dholakia, the minister counsellor prosperity at British Embassy Beijing, and Zhang Pingwen, the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and the vice president of Peking University, attended the forum and delivered speeches. Wolf-Dieter RAUSCH, Chairman of Eurasian-Pacific Uninet (EPU), congratulated the opening of the forum via video. The opening speech session was presided over by Fang Li, the secretary of the leading party members’ group of the BJAST. Fang Li pointed out that the shadow of the COVID-19 still exists, and the world's scientific community should strengthen cooperation in response to the new crown pneumonia. It should promote the open sharing of scientific resources, mutual trust and exchanges, and then build a global community of science and technology with a shared future.

    In his speech, Li Ping affirmed the positive role of the ZGC Think Tank Forum in maintaining a high level of openness to the outside world while achieving technological self-reliance and self-reliance. In addition, Counselor Danae Dholakia proposed to strengthen Sino-British cooperation in the field of open science and cultivate a culture of open cooperation; Academician Zhang Pingwen encouraged institutions of higher learning to play the role of innovation as the main body to promote the development of open science; Professor Wolf-Dieter RAUSCH emphasized open cooperation to deal with the problems faced by mankind.

    Five guests including Michael Levitt, the winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2013, gave keynote speeches. Zheng Huanmin, the president of the BJAST, presided over the keynote speech session.

    In the high-end dialogue session, Pan Jiaofeng, the president of the Institutes of Science and Development of Chinese Academy of Sciences, served as the moderator. Under the theme of "Openness · Cooperation · Sharing-Science and Technology Innovation on the Premise of Open Science", Guy P. Brasseur, the member of Academy of Europe, senior scientist of Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, and other experts discussed the changes that open science has brought to the scientific research paradigm and other issues.

    The ZGC Global High-level Think Tank Alliance appointed Michael Levitt, the winner of the 2013 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, as the honorary advisor of the alliance, and the letter of appointment was awarded by Academician Liu Zhongfan, the vice chairman of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference.

    The signing ceremony of ZGC Global High-level Think Tank Alliance was grandly held at the forum. More than 20 new member units were added to the alliance, and heads of high-level think tanks from China, the United States, Israel and other countries participated in the signing ceremony.

    Finally, Zheng Huanmin, the president of the BJAST, proposed in his closing speech that he hoped that through the Global Science and Technology Innovation High-Level Think Tank Forum, we would further focus on the needs of the country and the world, and gather both domestic and international resources to build a window bridge for opening up and cooperation and a shared platform for internal collaborative innovation.
