• The First Sub-forum of 2021 International Symposium on the Development of Natural Science Museums under the Belt and Road Initiative & the Thematic Forum of the 2021 World Conference on Science Literacy is Successfully Held

  • On 3rd of December, the first sub-forum of 2021 International Symposium on the Development of Natural Science Museums under the Belt and Road Initiative & the Thematic Forum of the 2021 World Conference on Science Literacy closed. The theme of this sub-forum is "Reshaping the Future of Popular Science Venue-Thinking and Suggestions on Closure and Reopening", which was convened by Dr. Meng Qingjin, the director of Beijing Museum of Natural History. Dean Peterson, the director of collections and research of Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, Zhang Caixin, the secretary of the leading party members’ group and director of Tianjin Museum of Natural History, Khalid Mahmoud, the director of Pakistan Museum of Natural History and Li Li, the secretary of the leading party members’ group and the deputy curator of Beijing Museum of Natural History, gave speeches. Liu Linde, the deputy curator of Beijing Museum of Natural History, served as the moderator of the forum.

    Cheng Donghong, the chairman of the Chinese Society of Natural Science Museums, delivered an opening speech for the forum. Chairman Cheng Donghong pointed out that this thematic forum was the first sub-forum of the thematic forum of the 2021 World Conference on Science Literacy Promotion Conference. The domestic and abroad counterparts shared their experiences online and offline, and enhance the dissemination and influence of popular science venues.

    Dean Peterson shared the new exhibition "Nature" which had been open to the public in the past two years. Zhang Caixin shared practical experience from three aspects: the impact of the new crown epidemic on the museum, the Tianjin Museum of Natural History, and the sustainable development of the museum. Khalid Mahmoud introduced the temporary closure and reopening of the Pakistan Museum of Natural History under the influence of the new crown epidemic. Li Li introduced various response measures taken by the Beijing Museum of Natural History under the influence of the new crown epidemic. Finally, Meng Qingjin made a concluding speech. He pointed out that the epidemic had changed the way of museum education. Based on the application of new technologies such as informatization, intelligence, and the Internet, the rich resources of the museum had been spread to a greater extent, and the integration of online and offline had further expanded the influence of the museum.
