Founded in November 1st, 1991, China Institute for Reform and Development (CIRD) is a research institution whose primary task is conducting research of China’s reform and development policies.

Premised on the mission of “Based in Hainan, Open to the Country, and Go to the World”, CIRD is committed to serving the policies and decisions of China’s economic and social reforms, insisting on the operation mechanism of “a small institution with large-scale networks” and characteristics of being “network-based, internationalized, and independent”.

Since the establishment of CIRD, it has taken “honest and straightforward advice on China’s reform” as its duty, and has striven to build a think tank for the reform in China. CIRD has submitted more than 200 reports regarding reform policies and legislative recommendations to relevant central departments, written 500 reform research reports, successively undertaken more than 100 reform policy consulting projects, published over 340 books and over 2,000 papers on reform research.

Some of the policy recommendations were directly adopted by the Central Committee for decision-making and some were employed as important references for formulating policies and regulations.

In terms of honors, CIRD has won various national awards including “National Best Works Award”, “Sun Yefang Economic Science Award”, and “China Development Research Award”.
